Technics is dead**THIS IS NOT TRUE**
**UPDATE: Panasonic announce continuation of Technics turntables
The DJing community and the greater dance music scene mourns the loss of a clubbing staple today. No, Steve Aoki hasn’t hung up his record bag, but rather news has emerged that iconic turntable manufacturers Technics will be stopping production on their universally loved Technics 1200s and Technics 1210s.
In a statement re-posted on dance board Global Hardstyle, the company behind the production of the Technics turntables Panasonic announced that they would cease the manufacture of Tehcnics turntables in February next year, citing an increasing decline in sales as the motivation behind the line’s demise.
The Australian arm of Panasonic issued a similar statement today, expressing their disappointment that the brand’s 35 years-and-running legacy was to be put to bed.
“It is a sad day today but due to low sales globally in analogue turntables a decision to stop production has been made on Technics Turntables,” Panasonic spokesman Ian North explained. “For Australia this means we will receive our last shipment in March.”
With the disappearance of Technics decks now imminent it’s becoming increasingly clear that the digital juggernaut is showing no signs of slowing down. We’ve already heard from trance icon Tiesto how he’s abandoned the ‘outdated’ medium in favour and gone for the ease and accessibility of digital tune libraries. Indeed, the new (and might we just say super-sexy) CDJ-2000s from Pioneer look to be making things easier than ever before with USB stick functionality, employed just last weekend by another digital convert Sasha.
Whilst we’re sure the classic Technics turntables will live on in the hearts of many club-reverent folk out there – not to mention in more than a few purist clubs – it’s still a crushing blow to lose the decks, and if nobody minds, we’ll be bringing beer o’clock around early this Friday afternoon.

its like the end of good built cars, now we drive aluminum cans, same with dj hardware, flimsy plastic cdjs that cost an arm and a leg that eventually will have dead lasers, and burnt out circuits. I've literally seen cdjs catch fire in a club, I have never seen a 1200 do that. even those expensive dvjs breakdown within 2 years, know of many where the lasers have gone out. you spend more time with these cdjs in repair shops as of late, and now they want you to drop some more money for the new models cause Sasha, Tiesto, Sander K., or some big name dj has endorsed it. Glad I got a pair still, but you know there are loads of people that are selling them for cheap all over the place, so you still got a good chance of picking them up still.

Its sad that Technics is stopping production of the 1200's! I covet my pair of 1200's. I always keep them in the studio so they will stay safe for as long as possible. If you take good care of them, they will hopefully last for many many years.

It would be wise for another company to buy the design and continue production. Even if it was on a build to order basis.

IF this is true, don't you think they have a patent that would expire for another company to pick up? Techincs have always had a patent that made their turntables special. Whatever part it was for (usually in the motor).

I know that when some companies stop producing a product they will sell the patent to another company. Dont know if this is the case.

even if someone bought the patent and were able to try to produce these turntables, who's to say they wont cut corners and put out a sub par product... it will never be the same.. glad i've got my pair :)

It now seems as though the widely circulated rumors about the Technic’s turntable demise is most likely untrue. However, there is yet to be any communication from the company except for this alleged e-mail Panasonic Australia. The fact that no wider press release has been issued is fairly surprising, but maybe not considering that in my ten years of covering turntable-based music I’ve never had any direct interaction with the company. They simply keep quiet and build the best turntables ever assembled. Here’s hoping that policy continues for many years to come.
