Shorty Spice (real name Connie Hsaio) is a Jersey girl, studying Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. She fell in love with electronic music, primarily trance, when she first started clubbing at 16 and has seen many artists such as Armin van Buuren, Nu NRG, Markus Schulz, Gabriel & Dresden, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond, Paul van Dyk, etc. at clubs throughout NYC and Detroit. When she first arrived in Ann Arbor, one of the first things she did was to find other EDM lovers. After meeting Jeremy Linden and Barry Shang, she met an Aerospace engineer and DJ named Michael Zuzolo who was interested in starting a student group on campus promoting EDM. Together, along with Eston Bond and Andrew Bilen, they founded the Michigan Electronic Dance Music Association (MEDMA) which has recently begun to receive much attention on campus due to the enthusiasm, motivation, and leadership of new members. This year, Shorty Spice picked up DJing and is still learning with help from the more experienced DJs in MEDMA.
Oh yea, and when you're not playing, listening, or dancing to music. What else do you enjoy doing?
The Spice Girls! Ultimate frisbee/football, cooking, swinging really high on swings and then jumping off, playing with little kids, community service, hugs, making cards, being with people I <3.
I've been well. For my day job, I'm a space systems engineer off in the corporate world, but I've been sticking with the music, too. I really like it down here in the DC area. I hope TFA works out for you! Do you know where they'd send you?
No, I won't be making it to Above and Beyond. At this point, I don't know that I'm even going to be DJing a party when i come back to A^2 in a week and a half. I'll certainly be back up for Memorial Day weekend, though.
